Tuchel applauds Havertz’ development as a player and his physical battle against Ramos

The manager of Chelsea Thomas Tuchel stated that he is thrilled with Kai Havertz and his development as a player, especially on their match against Real Madrid.

Before the match, Tuchel made it clear that he wanted to include Havertz because he believed he would be a great asset and help the team with ball possession.

It seems like Havertz, although he’s only 21 years old, has managed to go beyond Tuchel’s expectations. Havertz not only competed 20 duels, he also dueled with the defenders of Real Madrid in a physical way too.

”I was very happy with his reaction to the demands (in the second leg) against Real Madrid. To use his body against Nacho, Militao and Sergio Ramos. To use his physicality and his skills to step up.” said Tuchel on an interview for Chelsea TV.

Furthermore, Tuchel also mentioned that Havertz had doubts in himself, considering the fact that his first season at Chelsea did not initially go as planned.

Tuchel also said that he had a conversation with Havertz beforehand, because according to him, Havertz was going through a tough time mentally.

”I told him before when he was injured, not in his best shape, and he was doubting (himself) a bit, ‘You did the right thing, you stepped out of your comfort zone, went abroad during a tough time.” explained Tuchel.

Tuchel lastly stated that it’s a good thing that Tuchel is part of this league because he has an immense talent and Chelsea is a club that doesn’t let you rest.
